26 Nov 07 It’s official : Facebook Flyers to stop running as of December 3, 2007

So it’s official – Facebook flyers are dead; long live Facebook ads.

They want us all to migrate to Facebook ads – and beacon ads – and get away from their flyers system. (I was still running Facebooke flyer campaigns for some projects…. )

Subject: Important Information About Your Facebook Flyers Account

Dear Robin Majumdar,

We want you to know that the Facebook Flyers advertising program ends on December 3, 2007.

On November 6, 2007, we launched Facebook Ads, an ad system for businesses to connect with users and target advertising to the exact audiences they want. Through Facebook Ads, these users can now learn about new businesses, brands and products through the trusted referrals of their friends.

Facebook Ads launched with three parts: a way for businesses to build pages on Facebook to connect with their audiences; an ad system that facilitates the spread of brand messages virally through Facebook Social Ads; and an interface to gather insights into people’s activity on Facebook that marketers care about.

We encourage you to set up Facebook Ads to replace your Flyers. You can learn more here:

All Flyers Pro ads in your account will automatically stop running on December 3, 2007. You can continue to access your Flyers Pro reports and invoices through December 17, 2007 here:

If you have any questions you can contact us here:

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

23 Nov 07 StumbleUpon 3.16 Released : MetaCafe, Break.com and FireFox 3.0 support.

StumbleUpon 3.16 was released today – I’ve been using it for a while now, and I like the site and concept. It’s quite different from Digg and the SU toolbar is great.

The newest version of StumbleUpon adds support for stumbling through break.com and Metacafe; these two are actually great video sharing sites that are often forgotten to that other really big video sharing site.

18 Nov 07 Breaking : Sony to close down Sony Music Store – SonyMusicStore.com

Well what has been in the industry rumour pipeline for quite a while now is official. We just received official correspondance from Sony announcing that effective November 26 they will be shutting down the Sony Music Store.

The announcement was curt and cold to say the least ; “a business decision”…

09 Nov 07 FaceBook Ads Down – Create Ad Functionality is Temporarily Disabled

Well not only has the CTR (click through ratio) of many ad types on FaceBook Ads & FaceBook flyers left much to be desired.. but this evening while managing a client’s FaceBook Ads campaign… after going through the 3-4 screens setting up the ad copy and CPC amounts and daily limits… surprise:

FaceBook Ads Down - Create Ad Functionality is Temporarily Disabled - Screenshot

Well gee thanks… yes, I have been back and forth in the 4 step process… hopefully this is a temporary issue as I have campaigns that are time-sensitive for the clients heheh

It’s somewhat of a frustrating launch to what seems to be an unclimatic new player in the ad space – thus far.

08 Nov 07 Brilliant Google plan to add Google Maps to Gilbarco Applause Gas Station Pumps…

One of those brilliant “why didn’t I think of that” ideas from the Googleplex… (again).

Google has made a deal with Gilbarco to install screens that link to Google Maps at 3500 Gilbarco service stations… The touch screens will provide directions dynamically based on the location of that particular gas station and the persons destination. Of course, the option to print coupons (from advertisers using AdWords and targetting Google Maps users) will be included… they say it’s not the short term scenario (the ads) but that they will offer coupons for surrounding businesses. (Same same, as far as I am concerned, no ?)
