HP has a pretty tasty promotion running right now with $349 on the HP Pavilion dv9700t notebook – this is a great laptop (I’ve handled it in store on a few occasions) and yes, this coming from a long time fan of Dell – yes I still love Dell, but it’s been a love-hate relationship with their business notebook machines.

Well, it’s not really a surprise that IBM and Cognos finally jointly confirmed the acquisition of Cognos by the Armonk, New York giant in IT services.
The deal was for “roughly” $5 billion or $58 USD per Cognos share. Nice arbitrage play on the plumetting US dollar .. kudos to the IBM accounting strategists
Cognos is one of those great Canadian success stories and it’s a bittersweet pill to see it go (like so many others) to foreign ownership. Their business intelligence products are Tier 1 quality.
edit: That title should reach “nears acquisition” and not “closes acquisition” since officially this is just an offer… mind you at a 15% premium on the stock price!
