.US domain name registration for $2.99 per year at 1and1

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

1and1 is the German hosting company that roared into the US market a couple of years ago with extremely aggressive pricing on a wide range of web hosting and domain registration options.

I’ve found their web hosting (in the past) to be clunky - ok, maybe I am not a big fan of graphical hosting interfaces à la cPanel and WHM , but I digress.

They have a pretty hot sale on .US domain name registration for .US domains at $2.99 per year.

Google to buy Digg.com for “about” $200M - Google achetera Digg pour $200M

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Well, Michael Arrington is reporting over at TechCrunch that several inside sources at both Google and Digg are reviving the rumour mill that GOOG is digging Kevin Rose’s hugely popular (and often much-hated) Digg.com.

Apparently, the price is said to be in the $200M range…. and is within 2 weeks of being announced.

I’m surprised a bit at the dollar number and I think it isn’t so much for the intellectual property (err, Digg algorithms) but for the huge user base and very sticky audience that Digg enjoys.

Will Kevin Rose be moving to the GooglePlex?

Comme on dit en français: à suivre.

GoDaddy coupon code for 30% off .com domain name registrations for just $6.85

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Lunchtime deal found:

Well hot of the heels of their latest $6.95 .com deal, which ended yesterday, GoDaddy now has a decent deal for new .com domain name registrations at 30% the regular price. Use the coupon code goxtgi200c at checkout to register (or renew) your .com names for $6.85 (plus the $0.20 ICANN fee) - don’t know how long this promo will last…. but I’ve confirmed it for both NEW and renewals…

Dell People’s Choice Event Sale : UltraSharp 2408FPW 24″ LCD monitor for…

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Just finished lunch (dessert was , umm, 3 yogurts…)

$499 - the regular price for this UltraSharp 2408FPW 24″ LCD monitor is $699. This is a “days of Dell deals” event and as such is valid today only - I suspect it may sell out before the end of the day.

Dell UltraSharp 2408FPW LCD Monitor

The 2408FPW is an excellent 3rd generation 24″ LCD monitor with “full” HD WUXGA resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.

Some other features of note:

  • 6ms G2G pixel response time, not staggering for gaming but good enough with the right graphics card.
  • 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
  • 1080P support with HDMI, composite, componentDisplay Port, DVI-D with HDCP and HDMI 2.1 Audio Out connectors. I recommend that anyone buying a new computer monitor not even consider a monitor with less than 1920×1080 support, and Display Port will most likely be the successor to HDMI in the next few months.
  • height,swivel and tilt adjustment
  • 9 in 2 memory card reader
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports
  • 3 year advance exchange support
  • … and free shipping.

    :) ’nuff said.
