So, I get a fair number of comments on various articles I write here, and also a fair amount of comment spam (about 100-150 comment spams per day) which Akismet dutifully protects me against 99% of the time. While Akismet is an impressive and highly functional tool – it certainly is not (and should be) the only tool in your arsenal to protect your blog from comment spammers.
WordPress has various mechanisms available to prevent automated (or human) spam bots from overrunning your site. (more…)

25 Jun 08 Early review of WordPress 2.6 Beta 1
Well, the development crew over at WordPress released Beta 1 of WordPress 2.6 yesterday and … while I had downloaded the build and run it on a few dev sites, didn’t have time to thoroughly test out the new beta features before Jeremy Schoemaker beat me with a pretty indepth review.
If the upgrade path from 2.5.x was as smooth for me as it was from 2.x to 2.5.x I think this will be a great release once it goes final… err… RTM.
26 Apr 08 Arrested. How that one word on Twitter got James Karl Buck out of an Egyptian jail – with help from his friends.
It’s rare that a story on CNN really grabs my attention, but it was on the front page and interestingly enough had a cool enough tech story… James Earl Buck was covering an anti-government protest in Egypt when he was arrested by the authorities… he sent a message on the Twitter network ; arrested.
His friends who followed his Twitter account saw that (first!) message from him and … the rest is history!
