$349 off the very solid HP dv9700t 17″ laptop… nice machine, nice deal
HP has a pretty tasty promotion running right now with $349 on the HP Pavilion dv9700t notebook - this is a great laptop (I’ve handled it in store on a few occasions) and yes, this coming from a long time fan of Dell - yes I still love Dell, but it’s been a love-hate relationship with their business notebook machines.

The dv9700t is one of those really well-built and functional notebooks, a few of the things I like:
- 3GB - this is a the defacto standard for Vista
- 320GB hard drive - you never have enough storage, although dunno if this is 5400 or 7200rpm
- Blu-Ray reader - even if Steve Jobs believes the disc is dead with his Apple TV and disc-less Macbook Air, I still think it’ll be relevant for a while…
- Fingerprint Reader - you think a biometric security system is a gadget? How comfy are you typing in your password sitting next to 20 curious eyes in an Internet café?
- FREE shipping ! (this is a must!)
- They’re also offering a “free” printer after mail-in rebate, but hey, printers are free today. They’ll getcha with the cartridges
Personally, I think 17″ laptops are a bit too big to be portable, but this dv9700t is a worthy competitor to the Dell 17″ notebooks, and if recent experience is any consideration: the HP’s are far more solidly built…. mind you, this changes with every interim generation of notebooks from the big 3 players. $350 off makes it sweet - deal ends this Friday I think.
