Actually, Sharma quotes inside sources at the Googleplex as saying:
Google about its big plans in wireless … … announcing an alliance with various handset makers and cellphone operators around the world that are willing to push its “open” platform for cellphone applications
It appears that HTC from Taiwan is one of the forerunners to build the actual gPhone hardware although other handset heavweights Samsung, LG, and SonyEricsson are also being whispered to be involved.
I happened to be attending the Microsoft Unified Communications launch event in Montreal on Thursday when the news was being broken by the NYT… Since the Microsoft UC platform basically brings together synchronous voice/video/text communications and makes it pervasive and ubiquitous several of the telcos were there. I tried gleaning any info from folks at Telus, Bell, Allstream about the Google Phone… with no success. I got some interesting (off record) tidbits about the iPhone but seriously… I’m not into techno jewelry.
Yes, the iPhone feels and looks great. But thus far it is G who has best organised information for me - and as a advertiser… information about my clients heheh.
