It’s official : Dell stops selling Axim Handheld pocket PCs

Well, it’s been officially announced in an email from Dell spokesperson Anne Camden sent to C|Net News reporter Ina Friend: Dell will no longer sell the (highly popular and well-rated) Axim series of Windows Mobile Pocket PCs.
A bit of a shame since the Axim X51V which I’ve been using for about 18 months is an incredible value - if you use it as the true multifunction device that is decided to be. VOIP Skype phone over WiFi, BT… PSP handheld hame machine with dedicated 3D graphics. MP3 player. Terminal Services client for corporate RDC sessions, picture viewer, Pocket office, pocket browser, GPS nav system with it’s transflective (and beautiful) VGA resolution touch screen.

As I mentioned in my response to the C|Net article… I’m sure Dell will be back in the handheld (smartphone or similar converged device) soon enough….
